Authentic Content Is King

Media conglomerates are battling, viewers are shifting, and producers are scratching heads.

So what’s going on?

Well, content is king.  This has been the case for nearly the entire duration of the media/modern entertainment era.  However, it begs the question: what kind of content?

Yes, movie theatres have turned into well-kept deserts - we already knew this.  ‘Killed by Netflix and buried by HBO’ is usually what most have to say about that one.  However, there’s one low-lying culprit that is frequently mentioned yet rarely suspected: live streaming.

Studies Have Shown That Users Watch Live Streams 10-15 Times Longer Than On Demand Content.

Allow us to rephrase: Engagement is king.

Naturally, being able to interact with a creator through the likes of a platform such as ‘Twitch’, is revolutionary.  It is then to be somewhat expected that engagement rates would be higher, as you can actually engage in the first place - instead of just watching.

Here’s where we really see the nail in the coffin though: users watch the replays of live streams they missed out on - nearly 20 times longer than on demand content.

The Playing Field Has Been Levelled.

What? How? By who? I thought you had to know someone?

Tech equipment, bags of camera gear, microphones and lenses are no longer required to produce the kind of content that outperforms million-dollar budgeted movies.  Companies like Logitech, Razor, and Microsoft are equipping you with a webcam and mic - and you’re on your way.

Because of the distinct ceiling placed on the production quality of live streaming, it really allows for creators to all match each other technically - and do what they do best.  Create!

To summarize how significant the live streaming culture is; 2021 saw and met the predictions of reaching a $70 billion valuation for the live streaming industry.

$223.98 Billion Is The Number.  2028 Is The Year.

Statistical analysts are all pointing towards this forecast.  The question remains: will this take from the current structure we’ve grown up with of traditional style media?  Likely.

What will happen to our standards and expectations for production quality?

Surprisingly: not a lot.

To bring a few names back that were mentioned earlier, Logitech, Microsoft and Razor are producing cameras that already provide a superior quality of stream - and this is expected to advance tremendously over the next few years.  Depth of field, bokeh, f-stops - all on the horizon, so hang tight.
